OUR INTENTION
Klā urban oasis –
space to retreat,
time to return.
Clay /klā/ is naturally formed earth made from organic matter. Over time, water breaks up the remains of flora, fauna, and minerals, pulverizing them into fine particles. Through rock and sand, larger particles are filtered out in a refining process, leaving silt to settle into beds of clay.
The formation of clay is a beautiful yet treacherous process, closely mirroring the many cycles of transformation life offers. Each individual is a unique composition, and when faced with the edges of choice and experience, we are refined into something new. Pause, as a ritual after the journey, encourages the integration of all that has been, offering space and time to settle into what has become, for now.
This is Selah, a Sacred Pause, and the core philosophy behind our offerings.
Our Shared 20% Service Fee Model
At Klā Sanctuary and Selah Lounge, we believe in cultivating ecosystems of care—not just for our guests, but for our team as well. Part of that commitment is reflected in our 20% service fee model, which allows us to create a more sustainable and equitable workplace for our staff.
Unlike traditional fee structures, 100% of the service fee goes directly to our staff. It does not fund building maintenance, corporate overhead, or unrelated expenses. Instead, it acts as a revenue share—a dedicated portion of every service that is intentionally set aside to support the people who bring Klā and Selah to life.
Our goal is simple: to create a workplace where our staff can thrive. By building this model, we reduce reliance on unpredictable tips and instead ensure that every team member, regardless of position, shares in the value created together. Whether preparing spaces, offering treatments, or tending to the smallest details, we work as one team to craft an exceptional guest experience—and we believe our compensation should reflect that collective effort.
Why This Matters
This model is more than a financial structure—it’s a philosophy of care, community, and sustainability:
Thriving Wages – By setting aside a dedicated portion of revenue for staff, we create greater financial stability. The compensation of our staff parallels the growth of Klā and Selah.
Reliability – Instead of depending on fluctuating tips, staff can count on a consistent source of income.
Shared Success – Every member of the team, regardless of role, participates in the same model, reinforcing that we all contribute to the guest experience.
Team Culture – This approach encourages collaboration, not competition, and strengthens the spirit of working together toward a shared vision.
Sustainability for the Industry – By creating predictable compensation structures, we help reduce burnout and build long-term careers in the service and wellness fields.
Guest Ease – Guests can relax knowing their experience already includes care for staff, removing the uncertainty or pressure of navigating tips.
We recognize that every business approaches compensation differently, and we honor the diversity of practices across the service industry. At Klā and Selah, this model reflects our values of connection, sustainability, and intentionality. We believe that by committing to a shared business model that dedicates revenue directly to staff, we’re paving a better path forward—one where wellness is nurtured not only in our guests, but in the people who care for them.
